How Do I Track Loans a Debt Fund Makes to Borrowers?

For SponsorsBy Syndelo

How to add a loan to a borrower, confirm its funding, and record borrower payments in a debt fund.

A debt fund's Loans tab tracks the loans the fund makes to borrowers. This is separate from Investor Loans, which are the notes the fund owes its investors.

Add a loan

  1. Open the debt fund and click the Loans tab.
  2. Click Add Loan.
  3. Enter the Loan Name, Borrower, Collateral, Principal, Annual Interest Rate, Repayment (Interest Only or Equal Principal), Day Count (Actual 365 or Actual 360), Funding Date, and Maturity Date.
  4. Save. The loan is a Draft.
  5. Once the money has gone out, a Finance Approver clicks Record Funding, enters the Transfer Reference, and ticks I Have Verified That the Funds Have Settled. The loan becomes Active.

Record a borrower payment

  1. Click View Loan.
  2. Click Record Receipt and enter the Amount Received, Received On, and Bank Reference.
  3. A Finance Approver clicks Approve in Receipt History.

Good to know

  • Interest is simple interest on outstanding principal. Payments cover interest first, then principal.
  • The loan detail shows the payoff amount as of today and the Original Payment Schedule, which assumes on-time payments.
  • Cancel removes a draft loan or a pending receipt.
  • Recording funding or a receipt does not start a bank transfer.
  • Investors see loan details only if you share them in the portal.
  • For notes owed to investors, see Manage Investor Loans and Promissory Notes.
