An investor is the person you have a relationship with. An investing account is who legally owns the investment, such as that person, their trust, or their LLC. One investor can have several investing accounts.
The Three Pieces
- Investor: a record in Investors with their contact details, notes, tasks, tags, and activity. Prospects are investors too. They don't need an account yet.
- Investing account: the individual, trust, or entity that owns investments. Pledges, payments, payouts, tax forms, and statements belong here.
- Portal login: how a person signs in to the investor portal. See How Do I Invite Investors to the Portal?
Add an Investing Account
- Open the investor from Investors.
- Under Investing Accounts, click Add Account. You need permission to edit investor records.
- Enter the Legal Account Name and choose the Ownership Type: Individual, Joint, Trust, LLC, Corporation, Retirement, or GP.
- Click Save.
If you can manage the team, Syndelo then opens Portal Access so you can set up who can use the account.
Who Can Act for an Account
An account can have people who act for it, such as a trustee or an advisor. Click Manage Portal Access on the account. The Investing Accounts panel on the right shows each person as Can Invest or View Only. See How Do I Approve a Representative Request?
Good to Know
- The totals on an investor's page add up all of their investing accounts.
- A link in People, Households & Companies is only a record. It doesn't give anyone access. See How Do I Link Related Investors and Households?
