How Do I Record a Payment From an Investor?

For SponsorsBy Syndelo

How money an investor sent becomes a Payment In, and how to approve it and confirm receipt.

When an investor tells you they sent money, Syndelo prepares the Payment In for you. You approve it and confirm receipt once the money is in your bank. The investor's capital increases only after receipt is confirmed.

From an investor's notice

When an investor clicks that they sent funds, Syndelo creates a Payment In with the investment, account, amount, date sent, and their reference. If their pledge is not accepted yet, it is created as soon as the pledge is.

On the raise's Investors tab, open Funds to Confirm:

  1. Check the rows and click Approve Selected.
  2. When the money arrives, check the approved rows and click Confirm Receipt. Enter the Date Received and Bank Reference for each one, check I Checked These Amounts Against the Bank., and click Confirm Receipt.

Because the investor prepared the Payment In, the team member who approves it cannot also confirm receipt. A second team member does that.

Record a payment yourself

  1. Go to Money > Payments & Payouts.
  2. Click Record Payment In.
  3. Choose the Investment and Investing Account, and enter the Payment in Amount (USD).
  4. Optionally pick a Funding Source and a Capital Call. By default the payment counts toward the Oldest Open Call for This Account. Choose Not for a Capital Call if it is not for a call.
  5. Add a Reference or Description and click Prepare for Approval.

The account needs an accepted pledge.

Approve and settle

  1. On the Payments tab, click Details on the payment.
  2. A different team member clicks Approve Payment. If no one else in your workspace can approve, you can approve it yourself after confirming your password and a code.
  3. Once the funds are in your bank, an approver clicks Record Settlement, enters the Settlement Date and Bank / Reinvestment Reference, and confirms.

Recording a settlement records confirmed activity. It does not send a bank transfer.

Corrections

For payments not sent through ACH, an approver can use Record Return on a settled payment or Cancel Unsent Instruction on one that has not settled. The original history is kept.

Payments made by ACH are tracked on Bank Transfers (ACH).

Syndelo is in preview. eSign and investor payments require live provider setup; a demo or sandbox action does not complete a live transaction. Confirm availability for your workspace before relying on either.
