How Do I Record Investor Preferences and Forecast a Raise?

For SponsorsBy Syndelo

Record what each investor looks for, find the right investors for a raise, and see what a raise is likely to close at.

Two things help you raise faster: knowing what each investor wants, and knowing how much a raise is likely to bring in. Syndelo keeps both.

Record an Investor's Preferences

  1. Open the investor from Investors.
  2. In Investment Preferences, click Add (or Edit).
  3. Fill in what you know:
    • Investor Category: Individual, Family Office, RIA or Advisor, Institution, Fund of Funds, or Other.
    • Tier: Tier 1, 2, or 3, however your team ranks relationships.
    • Smallest Check and Largest Check.
    • Property Types, Strategies, and Target Geographies: click every one that applies.
    • Return Focus: Cash Flow, Growth, or Balanced.
    • Hold Period and Leverage Tolerance.
  4. Click Save Preferences.

Leave anything you don't know blank. The free-text Investment Interests field in Relationship stays as it is, for anything that doesn't fit a choice.

Find the Right Investors for a Raise

On Investors, click Filter, then Show All Filters. Every preference is a filter. For example, choose Property Types: Multifamily, Check Size from $100,000 to $250,000, and Target Geographies: Southwest.

  • Choices match investors with any of the ones you pick.
  • Check Size shows investors whose own range overlaps the range you enter.
  • You can also filter by Relationship Manager, Referrer, Lead Source, and Prospect For (investors who already have an opportunity in a raise).

Save the filters as a view, then select everyone and click Add to Raise to add them as prospects, or Send Email to reach them. See How Do I Update Many Investors at Once?

To add the preference columns to the list, click Columns.

How Likelihood Works

Every pipeline stage has a likelihood to close, such as 25% for Interested. Set them in Settings under Pipelines. See How Do I Customize Fundraising Pipeline Stages?

If you know more about one opportunity, open it, click Edit, and enter its own Likelihood to Close. Leave it blank to go back to the stage's.

An opportunity's weighted amount is its amount times its likelihood. The amount is the recorded pledge, or the expected pledge if there is none yet. For example, a $200,000 expected pledge at 25% is weighted at $50,000.

See the Forecast

  • Pipeline board: each card shows its likelihood and weighted amount, and each column shows its weighted total.
  • Pipeline grid: the Likelihood and Weighted columns, with a total for everything listed.
  • Investor's profile: the Opportunities panel shows each one's likelihood and weighted amount, and the weighted total.
  • Raise dashboard: the Forecast panel adds pledges already accepted to the weighted amount of every open opportunity. The bar shows pledged money and the weighted pipeline against the target, with a line for each open stage.

The forecast leaves out committed and funded stages' expected amounts, because their pledges are already counted, and lost opportunities count for nothing.
