Some raises need proof that you are an accredited investor. You can do this during your application, in the Accreditation step, or any time from Accreditation in the Account menu.
Your sponsor decides whether online verification is switched on. If you don't see Accreditation in the Account menu, your sponsor has not turned it on. You can still upload a letter during an application.
During an application
The Accreditation step offers two options. Both keep you in your application:
- Option 1: Verify Online: upload your evidence and our verification partner checks it. Fees may apply.
- Option 2: Upload a Letter: upload a letter from a CPA, attorney, broker-dealer or registered investment adviser dated in the last year. Your sponsor reviews it.
You can submit your application and sign your documents while the check is in review. Your sponsor accepts your pledge only once your accreditation is verified. Most raises also wait for verification before you send funds; some escrow-style raises take funds earlier, and the funding step tells you which.
Some raises instead just ask whether the account is accredited. Choose Yes, Accredited or No, Not Accredited. Your answer from your last application with this sponsor is used again, and it shows on Review.
Verify from the Account menu
- Open Accreditation.
- Choose Start Verification.
- If you have more than one account, choose the Investing Account. Accounts for a person or couple verify as individuals; trusts, companies and retirement accounts verify as entities. You don't need to choose this.
- Choose a Verification Method and upload the documents it asks for. You can upload up to 8 files, each up to 10 MB.
- Optionally choose Check My Documents. It reads your files and tells you what each one looks like, whether the names and dates fit the account, and what the method still needs. It's advice to help you, not an accreditation decision, and the files are not stored.
- Optionally add Notes for the Reviewer (Optional).
- Choose Submit for Verification.
The check uses the legal name from the account's legal details. Update them first if the name is wrong. Your sponsor must let you invest through an account before you can request a check for it.
Track your check
Your Verifications lists each check with its status, when it was submitted, last checked, and when it expires. When a letter is ready, choose Download Letter.
