A file reaches an investor only when it's shared with an account or investment they can reach. Open the investor from Investors and click Documents under their name to see every file they can see. If the file isn't there, check the reasons below.
Library Files
Open the file in the Document Library and check the Shared With column.
- Team only: investors can't see it. A file's audience can't be changed in the library, so upload it again with the right audience.
- Investors in an investment: only accounts holding that investment see it. An investor with no position yet won't.
- One investing account: only people with access to that account see it.
- The file is in Deleted Documents, so investors lost access. Use Restore Document.
K-1s and 1099s
- The batch isn't published. Files stay team-only until you click Publish Documents & Email Investors. See How Do I Send K-1s and 1099s?.
- A correction is waiting for review. The corrected file stays team-only until it's approved.
- A representative on the account doesn't have tax access. Tax files need tax document access for that account, even for people who can see other files.
The Whole Section Is Missing
If Document Library is turned off for your portal, investors see a note that the section isn't shared, in both the Document Library and the Tax Center. To change it, go to Workspace Settings, open Portal, and turn on Document Library in Investor Portal Visibility.
Good to Know
- Signed agreements live under Agreements in the portal, not the Document Library.
- Data room files are shared from the raise, not the library. See How Do I Set Up the Deal Room and Raise Documents?.
- See who opened a shared file with Recipients in Document Actions.
